    Is Rhinoplasty Painful?

By Sofi Nurashvili · Medically reviewed by GlobMedTrust partner surgeons · Updated 10 Feb 2026

Rhinoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic procedures — and one of the least painful, despite what many patients expect.

    During the Procedure

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia. You won't feel anything during surgery.

    After Surgery

Most patients describe post-rhinoplasty discomfort as pressure and congestion rather than pain. The nose feels blocked and swollen — similar to a bad cold. Actual pain is typically mild and well-controlled with standard pain medication.

Bruising around the eyes is common and resolves within 1–2 weeks. The cast is removed at day 7, and most patients are pleasantly surprised by how manageable the recovery is.

    Recovery Timeline

Days 1–3: most swelling and congestion. Days 5–7: cast removal, significant improvement. Week 2: most bruising gone, presentable appearance. Months 3–6: swelling gradually resolves. Month 12: final result visible.
