    How Painful Is Plastic Surgery?

By Sofi Nurashvili ยท Medically reviewed by GlobMedTrust partner surgeons ยท Updated 26 Jan 2026

Pain is one of the most common concerns โ€” but modern medicine makes it far more manageable than most patients expect.

    During Surgery

You won't feel pain during surgery. Procedures are performed under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with sedation, depending on the type and complexity. You'll be completely comfortable throughout.

    After Surgery

Post-operative discomfort varies by procedure. Most patients describe it as soreness, tightness, or pressure rather than sharp pain. Prescribed pain medication effectively manages discomfort in the first few days.

Rhinoplasty: mild to moderate discomfort, mostly pressure and congestion. Breast augmentation: moderate tightness and soreness for 3โ€“5 days. Liposuction: mild to moderate soreness, similar to post-workout aching. Tummy tuck: moderate discomfort, especially when moving, for 5โ€“7 days. BBL: moderate โ€” sitting restrictions are more challenging than pain itself.

    Pain Management

Our partner clinics use advanced pain management protocols including prescribed medication, anti-inflammatory treatments, and clear guidance on managing discomfort at home. Most patients are surprised by how manageable the pain is.
